SGCHS Sports Alive and Thriving!
Our Panthers sports teams have been very busy so far this year. Check out their accomplishments:
We had a very successful volleyball season at Spruce Grove Comp with our two Junior teams playing in the City Championships, in which the boys won a silver medal and the girls won gold. Our Senior Boys' team finished third in the city, and our Senior Girls' team lost a tough-fought quarter final game. Our Senior Boys' team went on to the Provincial Championships in Lloydminster, where they finished fourth overall. Between all of our volleyball teams, we came home with 6 tournament wins. Way to go, Panthers!
Our Senior Panther Football team was in a rebuilding year with lots of young talent for next year. They finished the season with a 1-5 record. Our Junior Memorial team finished the season with a 2-3 record and show a lot of promise for next year.
The Cross Country team sent two girls to the Provincial Championships in Okotoks. Both Sarah Boerger and Madison Whiting had personal best performances, with Sarah finishing 3rd in her age category.
Basketball is in full swing now with all four teams already competing successfully in tournaments. The Senior Girls won the Ross Shep Totem Hoop Classic, the Junior Girls won the Scona Classic, and the Senior Boys won the Lillian Osbourne tournament. It looks like a great start to the season! Good luck, Panthers!
Panther Auxiliary News
We have received a grant with which Panther Auxiliary plans on purchasing a new tubbie for the school, so we look forward to trading in one of our older-model tubbies for a new one.
The new executive is working hard to fill all of the bingos spots and we have a casino date in June for which we will need volunteers to help out. Thanks to all of the parents that are involved on the executive; we appreciate their commitment and effort to help our athletic program at Spruce Grove Composite.
