These awards are available to graduating students completing their first year of Grade 12.

To be considered eligible for Grade 12 awards, you must submit an Awards Application Form to Student Services. The submission deadline for award applications is Friday, April 26 @ 4pm.

Academic Achievement Awards

Border Paving Engineering Scholarship

Awarded to a SGCHS or MCHS graduating student who demonstrates academic excellence and is suited to further study in engineering or engineering technology (i.e. has the highest average using blended marks in English 30, Math 30/31, Chemistry 30 and Physics 30).

Governor General's Award

Sponsored by the Government of Canada

Awarded to the graduating student with the highest academic average. The average includes all Grade 11 and Grade 12 courses as listed on the student's official transcript of grades issued by the Ministry of Education.

Health Professions Award

Given to a student who displays academic excellence and has chosen to pursue a career in the health profession.

Awarded to the graduating student with the top average for all three years of high school.

Awarded to one male and one female student with a minimum 70% average who is involved extensively with activities supported by Panther Auxiliary Association (i.e. athletics).

Alfred Dao Yearbook Award

Sponsored by SGCHS Yearbook

Given to the most dedicated member of the yearbook committee. The recipient must be on the yearbook committee for the full year and identified by the teacher organizers as the student who has consistently gone above and beyond their duties. This award is open to Grade 10, 11 & 12 students.

Excellence in Cosmetology Award

Sponsored by SGCHS

Awarded to a full-time Grade 12 student completing their High School Diploma in the current school year. The recipient must achieve Honours standing in Grade 12 Cosmetology, Hairstyling or Esthetics courses, while having an excellent attendance record, demonstrating great ability and aptitude for this vocation, and displaying a positive attitude and strong desire to learn.

To be considered for this award, students should speak to Ms. Philibert.

Awarded to a graduating student who shows excellent achievement in construction related course(s), demonstrates leadership qualities in the classroom and has a cooperative attitude with fellow students and teachers.

Given to the student who best exemplifies Love of Life, Integrity, Friendship and Enthusiasm. Nomination form must be supported by ten graduating classmates and a teacher. Graduating class votes on nominated students to select the award recipient.

  • Has a weighted average in all Grade 12 courses of 70-79.5%
  • Has demonstrated good citizenship and participation in their local and school communities
  • Has a strong attendance record (>80% attendance rate)
  • Has not received any other major school-based award or scholarship
  • Is enrolled in a post-secondary institution

Awarded to a graduating student from the Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) who has enrolled in the Electrical Apprenticeship Program at NAIT. Preference will be given to students with a learning disability and/or who have overcome significant obstacles. Enrolment in another trade program will be a secondary consideration.

Rotary Club of Parkland After Dark (PAD) Scholarship*

Application deadline: February 28, 2018

Awarded to a student entering their first year of post-secondary education, including registered apprenticeship programs. Preference will be given to students who show a financial disadvantage or a strong commitment to good citizenship and volunteerism. To be eligible for this award, scholarship applicants and their immediate family may not be members of Rotary.
