SGCHS Construction Class Donates Dog Houses

On Thursday, January 15, 2015, Mr. Wright and his construction class had the pleasure of donating 10 dog houses to the charity known as HART (Humane Animal Rescue Team).

The founder of the organization, Wayne Tischer, was on site at SGCHS on the last day of classes to express his thanks for the students' hard work. He brought a rescued dog that had been recently attacked by a group of other dogs on a reserve. The friendly dog sadly had to have one leg amputated as a result, but was recovering and adapting well.

For the past semester, Construction 20 students have been building the dog houses for HART, a non-profit organization committed to rescuing stray or abandoned dogs. Mr. Wright said, "I am very proud of the students for their commitment to the project. They helped design and build a premium dog shelter to HART-specific requirements. These students learned that building a dog house isn’t as simple as it sounds and that a great deal of work goes into the construction process. They demonstrated that they can hammer and paint and do things with their hands that most teenagers can’t."

SGCHS has been working with HART for the past two years. The day was celebrated with pizza and soft drinks as a reward for all Construction students and their invited guests. "They had worked hard all semester and the pizza reward is thanks for the times that they have to go above and beyond their project scope and tend to the housekeeping items that arise with construction!"

HART receives a $3000 annual donation from two local businesses that have partnered with SGCHS and HART to make this possible.
