Police Activity at School Friday
December 1, 2017 -
Good afternoon Parents/Guardians of Spruce Grove Composite High School,
We just wanted to keep you informed of some social media activity involving threats directed towards Spruce Grove Composite High School.
A prompt investigation and response from the RCMP led to classrooms on the second and third floors of the school being temporarily relocated in the early afternoon while the RCMP conducted a thorough sweep.
At Parkland School Division, the safety and well-being of all our students is of the utmost priority. We'd like to extend a thank you to the local RCMP detachment for their assistance on this matter. From the moment the social media activity was discovered to the
prompt follow-up, no student or staff member was in any danger. The entire building was declared safe and normal daily activities resumed at 1:45pm.
It is unfortunate that someone has chosen to communicate something that is threatening to the school. We encourage parents to have a conversation with their child, and if they have any further information that would help RCMP with their investigation, please encourage your child to come forward through a trusted adult.
At Parkland School Division, we take any threats very seriously. There is zero tolerance for not responding. Prevention of youth violence is a community responsibility and it is everybody’s duty to report. Precautionary measures are always followed under the direction of the RCMP. The safety of our students and staff is our primary concern. For more on our Violent/Threat Risk Assessment processes, visit Parkland School Division's website.
